Tonight’s film of choice: Up in the Air.
Maybe (relatively) sad movies will be a thread that runs through my summer. I think I’m okay with that. Balance out the excessive brightness with some cinematic melancholy.

Until I see it, I will continue to question the casting, but God, it looks beautiful.
James Vincent McMorrow / Follow You Down to the Red Oak Tree
I watched Third Star earlier (because I, like many, have a Benedict Cumberbatch problem), and the film was decent, but when this song came on during the credits, it hit me right in the metaphorical heart.
So, Hawking was a really great movie.
Trent Reznor with Karen O / Immigrant Song (Led Zeppelin cover)
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo definitely had one of the coolest opening sequences I have ever seen. It was a pretty stellar film, too.
On Thursday, I went to Brighton Beach to be in a student film. We found a dead cat and I had to prod it with an umbrella. ARRRRT!
On Friday, Adam bought a cassette tape deck, Ty showed us her short film that Alexis and I were in, and I went to a weird party in a tiny apartment on Thompson.
On Saturday, a few of us saw Trojan Women at Atlantic. I had mixed feelings about it. Then there was the Broome talent show with free pizza and then Hannah’s party, which was nine-year-old themed and a lot of fun.
Today my dad visited and we went to Lombardi’s at a weird time so we didn’t have to wait and then walked all the way to the High Line, walked the whole High Line, and then walked to Penn Station to take the subway back here.
It was a good weekend, but I have a midterm on Tuesday that I haven’t really studied for. I will tomorrow. I will study so much tomorrow.
1. Volunteered at the Housing Works book store and had Book Corner flashbacks.
2. Stumbled upon a cool art exhibition.
2. Watched four crappy movies during two successive Crappy Movie Nights, the most notable among them being The Room, which is just the greatest (in the worst way possible).
4. Got arrested. FOR ART! (But actually for trespassing.)
5. Went to Whiplash without worrying about waking up early for class the next day.
6. Finally got to check out Occupy Wall Street for a bit with Alexis. It was really interesting, though there wasn’t much to actually do, so I want to go to one of their General Assembly meetings.
7. Ate a cupcake that had cannoli filling for frosting, was subsequently enlightened.
Watched The King’s Speech tonight. Finally. It was really, really moving and filmed beautifully. And had plenty of lovely funny bits, too.

I watched Never Let Me Go last night. It was devastatingly sad, but also really, really beautiful.
On Friday night, I went to Somerset, New Jersey to film a three minute movie for the Tisch 48 Hour Film Festival. After getting about four hours of sleep, we shot it all on Saturday in some random field, a really cool abandoned warehouse, and the basement of this extremely creepy abandoned house. It was raining and freezing and kind of miserable but also really, really awesome. We didn’t end up getting it edited and burned to a DVD in time to submit it to the festival, but apparently it looks amazing and I can’t wait to see it. Plus, so many future robot movies are going to come out of this, so that’s a definite plus.
I like that I get to watch Stranger than Fiction for homework, but now I have to write about it. I didn’t feel like turning the heat on in my dorm, so instead I put on this fantastic big sweater that I got at Retrospect yesterday when I hung out with Zoey and Russell. I want to take a nap, but I’m afraid I’d stay asleep for too long. I have to unpack. And clean/organize my incredibly messy side of the room. It’s hard living in two places at once; I’m always missing somewhere.
Currently watching this with my family.
