Again. At the start of A Study in Pink:
Oh man, in my Classical Mythology class we just talked about how the first and last books of The Iliad do this exact thing and it’s called a ring composition and it’s kind of brilliant and I am really, really nerding out right now.
(Also maybe I should mention that this is spoiler-y, just in case. But for God’s sake, if you haven’t seen Sherlock yet, GO WATCH IT RIGHT NOW I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT THIS GODDAMN PERFECT TELEVISION SHOW.)
This week was a good week. I got a part in a play, I rode on top of a double decker bus and went ice skating for free, I got all of the wonderful things I ordered from McSweeney’s, Adam and I got Jeff Mangum tickets, and the weather was lovely (for the most part).
But next week is going to be the most ridiculous thing ever: three auditions, three short papers and one longer one, a ton of stuff to memorize, class registration, rehearsal, rehearsal, rehearsal, and I think I am going to go crazy. But the Anais Mitchell show is next Sunday and then it’s basically Thanksgiving. Hopefully I will survive until then.
Right. Off to force myself to be productive.
1. I got no sleep last night.
2. I got some work done.
3. But not as much as I wanted to get done.
4. But I did have some fun times and good conversations in the lounge with people who were also trying to get a lot of work done. Mutual procrastination doesn’t feel as bad as procrastinating alone.
5. We picked rooms today for Broome! So that’s exciting, knowing where exactly I’m living next year and all.
6. School is over in three weeks.
7. I do appreciate a whole lot of things, though in my angsty post the other day it may not have seemed like it.
8. Among those things: studio friends, new-ish friends who I am getting to know better, the way it smells before it rains, ISO Magazine, empathy, and headphones.
9. This probably didn’t warrant a list.
10. But I like lists a whole lot.
Thumbs Up:
1. Whiplash yesterday was awesome, especially John Mulaney, who I may have a slight crush on. And Demetri Martin was a surprise guest! FREE COMEDY IS THE BEST.
2. Pudding. Always.
3. Bubble wrap.
4. Words with Friends. On Sunday, five of us were sitting in Adam’s room playing each other on our iPods/iPhones for way too long. It was ridiculous. And thus, Adam and I didn’t get to make our blanket fort because by the time everyone left it was late and we were too tired. It will happen eventually, though. It will.
5. Break is in like, two and a half weeks. Weird.
Thumbs Down:
1. Writing the Essay. Always. I have a seven page draft due tomorrow that I haven’t make much progress on. But I choose sleep.
2. My scene partner fucked up his knee today. Can’t really do a scene on crutches. Whomp.
3. IT’S TOO COLD.
