Yesterday. Post wisdom teeth removal. Mouth full of gauze and a Burger King crown courtesy of my mother.

SURPRISE! A list.

1. The Displacement Project was almost more than I could handle. Amazing, amazing, amazing. I kind of wish it wasn’t over.

2. But, that does mean that I can be at Julius Caesar rehearsals everyday now, which is great. We choreographed all of the death scenes today and they’re all brutal and fantastic and I’m so stoked about mine.

3. Today in Physical Acting, I stood on Carlton’s shoulders and we played a game called “Ghost Potato.”

4. I convinced my dad to grow a beard for the first time in his life but he shaved it off before I could see it in person (which was the whole idea to begin with!). So, obviously, he is going to have to grow another one.

5. My obsession with Sherlock is completely out of hand and not even okay anymore.

For the record.

Summary of my Christmas:

1. “Rooms, motherfucker, do you got them?” “Nah man, that ain’t me.”

2. Monogrammed stocking.

3. Gifts! I got gifts! It was unnecessarily sweet of them.

Summary of my New Year’s:

1. Party #1: fruit and foosball and people I didn’t know (who were all nice).

2. Party #2: dancing (notably to “All My Friends” and “Hockey Star”) and sparklers and people I didn’t know (who were also all nice).

3. Alana’s apartment with Alexis and Maddy and being tired and watching A Knight’s Tale and driving home at 5:00 in the morning.

Summary of Arizona in general:

1. NATURAL WONDERS.

2. Mexican food.

3. Driving.

Best. Christmas. Present. Ever. (Taken with instagram)

The receiver is from the ’70s and distorts the sound slightly so we’re having a very lo-fi Christmas and it’s kind of awful but also kind of awesome.

End of the semester.

My finals are done, Amanda is coming to stay for the next three days, I am slowly increasing my number of velvet clothing items, when I go to Arizona with Alexis we’re going to Disneyland (and Kathryn is probably going to come too!), I ate a bunch of ice cream tonight, I don’t have to wake up early tomorrow, I love my friends more than I can deal with sometimes, I am getting emotional about everyone who is leaving to study abroad, The Hobbit trailer gave me legitimate chills, it’s strange that the semester is over but I am so excited for the next one.

Notable Things from the Four Day Weekend:

1. Volunteered at the Housing Works book store and had Book Corner flashbacks.

2. Stumbled upon a cool art exhibition

2. Watched four crappy movies during two successive Crappy Movie Nights, the most notable among them being The Room, which is just the greatest (in the worst way possible).

4. Got arrested. FOR ART! (But actually for trespassing.)

5. Went to Whiplash without worrying about waking up early for class the next day.

6. Finally got to check out Occupy Wall Street for a bit with Alexis. It was really interesting, though there wasn’t much to actually do, so I want to go to one of their General Assembly meetings.

7. Ate a cupcake that had cannoli filling for frosting, was subsequently enlightened.

We had our cast party at Jimmy’s house tonight and it was more fun than I ever thought it could have been and so hilarious and fantastic and he has a roof that we all hung out on and a comfortable couch and that roof and I love everyone but I’m not going to see any of them for so long. Now I’m listening to Bruce and I don’t feel like sleeping because I am in such a great mood.

A list, as usual.

1. I’m doing this new thing where I don’t go on the internet very much. It’s kind of awesome.

2. I went to New York last Sunday night until Monday night. When I got out of the West 4th subway station, it was raining pretty hard, but I couldn’t help but smile like an idiot. Honda and I walked through the torrential downpour to 2 Bros. and Insomnia and it was hilarious. The next day I met my pen pal, Yannick, in real life, which was cool. Among other things, we walked the entire length of the High Line and I got to see the newly-opened part and it was beautiful. Also, Honda bought a desk for no reason and Thomas, Daniel, and I went to midtown to help him lug it back to Goddard. (I didn’t help; I just watched and laughed.) Then we met Alyssa at Veselka and walked to Broome afterwards, where we saw Barb completely by chance. It was an awesome couple of days. I am going to be back in a week. I am so goddamn excited.

3. We sold out The Comedy of Errors tonight! And tomorrow is our last show, which is crazy.

4. Next week is my last week at Buffalo Exchange, which is also crazy, but probably a good thing if I want to have any money left for food at school. Working there is kind of dangerous for me.

Relatively boring update for anyone who is not me.

I love the cast of The Comedy of Errors more and more every day. I especially love talking about musicals with Brent, how Rose is always willing to do my eye makeup because I suck at it, making faces at Daniel, and all of the silly things Robin and I do constantly. It’s going to be depressing as hell when the show is over. But then I go back to New York a week later, so I’ll only be in mourning for a few days, hopefully.

Yesterday I saw Seamus for the first time in a while and today I saw Thomas for the first time all summer, which doesn’t make any sense to me considering he really doesn’t live very far away. He, Amanda, and I walked all the way to the Franklin Fountain to get ice cream, among other things. The past two days have been so lovely, filled with friends and Shakespeare and not having to go to work.

Tomorrow after the show I’m going to New York until Monday night because I miss it too much and can’t wait all the way until the 27th to see it again. Also, I’m going to meet my pen pal, which I am very, very excited about.

So, everything’s pretty awesome and now I should really go to sleep because I need to wake up and clean my room tomorrow before my dad gets back from the beach. It’ll be a shame not having the house to myself anymore; being devoid of parents for a week has been the best.

Theatrical updates.

On Tuesday I had rehearsal until about midnight and then The Comedy of Errors opened on Wednesday and it went quite well! After the show, a bunch of us walked in the rain to Robin’s apartment in South Philly, where we met his housemates who are also actors at UArts. The night was filled with beer, Super Smash Bros., a roof with a beautiful view of the city, good jokes, fake swordfights, and great people. It was so, so much fun and Robin was even kind enough to walk me home at 1:00 in the morning.

Since then, we’ve done two more performances and it’s getting better each time. The audience tonight was particularly responsive, which is always awesome. One of my good friends, Zoey, and her mom came to see it and I had no idea until I saw them after the show. So, that was nice.

I’m getting slightly less angry about having to wash off boatloads of eye makeup each night. But only slightly.

And there is definitely a joke in the fact that I am an actor playing a waitress in a play. Practice for real life, or something.

We are bound by symmetry.

Being about ten feet away from Colin Meloy when he played “Red Right Ankle” solo last night was almost too much. “The Mariner’s Revenge Song” right after that was also particularly fun. The concert at the Borgata was so, so amazing; I hadn’t been that close to the stage at a Decemberists show since I saw them at the Electric Factory in 2008 (Damn seated venues!). The opening band, The Head and the Heart were really, really fantastic, too. After the show my dad and I went to this great noodle place in the hotel and then got Ben and Jerry’s. All in all, a pretty goddamn awesome night.

In other news, The Comedy of Errors opens on Tuesday and tomorrow is our last day of rehearsal before that and I am slightly concerned. I mean, it’s coming along really well, but if we only had like, one more week of rehearsal…

Well, anyway. I’m sure it will come together, as shows tend to do.

Songs I Am Currently Learning on the Ukulele:

1. “Broken Horse” by Freelance Whales

2. “Woke Up New” by The Mountain Goats

3. “The Chimbley Sweep” by The Decemberists

The tips of my fingers are red and tender, but this is too much fun.

Johnny Flynn / The Wrote and the Writ

His show at the World Cafe Live tonight was GLORIOUS. One of the highlights was when his sister/the flautist Lillie and the keyboardist James rapped the Fresh Prince theme song. Good times all around.

Anonymous asked: What is NYU like?

Kind of like this:

Things that are good:

1. The two typewriters in my house that I thought didn’t have ink ribbons DO HAVE RIBBONS. Let the typewriting adventures commence.

2. Sales.

3. Having time to read novels again.

4. The fact that my parents and I are going to Hawaii in a week.
