Julius Caesar, Part Two (Hark! A Vagrant) ›

Casts lists for our studio productions came out today! I’m playing Cassius in the all female version of Julius Caesar and I am SO STOKED. And thought this was appropriate.

The Maids

There was one awkward pause in the show on Friday but Adam and Ty came to see it and then on Saturday so many people came and it was overwhelming. Alexis got me flowers and my parents took the two of us out to lunch and I got a lot of hugs and sometimes I question why I want to be an actor because it’s difficult and uncertain and I get so nervous sometimes but then I do a performance like we did on Saturday and I remember why.

STOP EVERYTHING.

I GOT A PART IN A PLAY, GUYS. A PLAY WITH ONLY THREE CHARACTERS. AND I GOT A PART. I AM SO STOKED.

Alexis won free tickets to see Peter Bjorn and John at the Bowery Ballroom last night and it was so much fun. There were two openers: we missed the first one, but the second was this all-girl band from Tokyo called The Suzan and they were precious and really enjoyable. When we got back from the show, we had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. PB&J city.

Yesterday evening and most of today was spent doing Tisch’s 40 in 24 festival (which actually turned out to be 20 in 24). It was awesome and the play I was in was funny and everyone in my group was lovely and by some stroke of luck my play and the one Adam wrote were performed in the same theatre, so I got to see his, which was nice.

Now it’s late and one of our windows is open (because it is getting colder and I’m so excited about that) and I feel strange and I can never be eloquent in times like these; I just want to like, break a few things and go wander through the city. I dunno. I should probably just go to sleep.

An update was in order.

I have Speech homework that was due on Friday that needs completing, but there is nothing remotely interesting about listening to people talk and writing about what their voices sound like. Jen is not here right now, and it’s nice to have the room to myself. We have a floor dinner at eight and we’re having falafel and I am VERY excited.

Some things that have occurred:

1. Went to Apple Fest, and only three other people plus our RA actually woke up to go (it was at 11:00 on a Sunday) so we had extra money with which to buy delicious foods. We got apple cider, corn-on-the-cob, apple cobbler, and a basketful of apples.

2. Went to a Block Party in Brooklyn with Adam and his fake family.

3. Played two full games of The Lord of the Rings Monopoly in two days and was decimated both times. I am determined to win at some point.

4. Had a conference with my (awesome) Writing the Essay teacher about my essay and he said lots of good things about it, which restored my faith in my writing ability.

5. Watched a lot of As Told by Ginger. Adam has every episode on his computer and he, Alexis, and I have been watching it almost religiously. So good.

6. Saw the play Orlando, which was really good.

7. Went to Central Park last night for the screening of LENNONYC, but we got there too late and couldn’t get actual seats, so we had to sit far away on the sidewalk behind two fences with a severely obstructed view. It was good, but then it got depressing and we were all hungry and cold so we left early and went to Chipotle.

8. Ate too many Insomnia Cookies.

Updates.

1. My mom and I saw Lend Me a Tenor on Saturday. SO GOOD. SO HILARIOUS.

2. I found out who my roommate is and she seems really cool! I was a bit nervous about the whole almost-randomly-assigned roommate thing, but whatever program they use at NYU to match people up seems to have done a good job. Hurrah!

3. I wish I could see my dorm room before I move in, or at least know how big it is/what is looks like, because I feel like I can’t buy things like rugs and bedside tables and whatnot without knowing what the room is like. It’s frustrating. My dad and I went to IKEA today and all we bought was two power strips.

4. I can’t believe it’s August! I honestly just want the summer to be over. I mean, it’s been relaxing and nice and whatever, but I’ve felt so lazy and I’ve gotten more and more frustrated with my parents and I’m SO EXCITED FOR COLLEGE; I just want to go already!

5. I had to buy five books for my studio, and one of them is this tiny, 200-page paper back book called The Actor Performs and the cheapest I could find it for online was THIRTY DOLLARS. Ridiculous. It’s the second smallest book I needed, and the most expensive. I will repeat: ridiculous. I looked though it and it seems to have a lot of neat-sounding activities, but I don’t know it they are thirty dollars neat.

6. Another book I needed was Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, which is a philosophical novel. I am curious to see how it will fit into the curriculum, and a bit skeptical.

7. On the trains to and from New York on Saturday I read 239 page of It’s Kind of a Funny Story, (which I have been wanting to read for like, four years or something crazy like that so I finally just bought it because it was only nine dollars at Borders [why are young adult books SO MUCH cheaper than regular adult books?] and I figured since it’s going to be a movie, I should read the book before that comes out) which I am enjoying, though I should probably be reading more plays or Poetics or something. Meh.

Shows, birthday, etc.

THURSDAY: My mom and I went to New York on the coldest bus in the history of buses to see Next Fall, which was brilliant and hilarious and heartbreaking. I really, really wish it wasn’t closing tomorrow because I would definitely try to see it again.

FRIDAY: I was supposed to usher for Fiddler on the Roof at the Walnut with Scott, but he was sick, so I asked Caileigh to go instead. It was great and I was glad to have someone to go with; ushering by myself with lots of old people is lonely.

TODAY: I had a voice lesson, but I am losing my voice for whatever reason, so it was a minor fail. It also was Caileigh’s birthday! So she came over and we made Funfetti cake AND chocolate cupcakes. Tashara came over too and we ate lots of cake and it was delicious and then we played card games/Boggle, because we are cool.
