Anais Mitchell / Way Down Hadestown
On Sunday, Adam, Alexis, Alana (who was visiting!), and I saw Anais Mitchell and company (including Ani DiFranco) perform all of Hadestown live and it was incredible and beautiful and so much fun. We were right in the front (which made taking pictures feel kind of awkward, but whatever) and afterwards they all came into the audience and taught us patriotic songs and then we marched to Washington Square Park singing them. What a night.
Things worth mentioning.
1. I’ve started watching True Blood, and by “started” I mean “watched every episode On Demand in a very short amount of time until I got caught up.” I wasn’t sure how I felt about it at first, but by the end of the first season, I was pretty convinced that it was fantastic and then the second season was like, a slap in the face made out of awesome.
2. My mom and I are going to New York tomorrow to see Hair, and I am VERY, VERY EXCITED. It’s closing on the 27th and I’m really glad we’ll be able to see it before it does.
3. I’ve been listening to a lot of musical cast recordings and DESPERATELY WISHING I had a really good singing voice. SAD FACE. I feel like it’s kind of worse to have a decent voice than an outright terrible one, because with a decent voice, it’s like you’re ALMOST there, but you suck juuuust a little too much.
Singing, Glee, etc.
So, my singing lesson went pretty well! The lady was really nice and quite helpful. It was only a half hour, but we did a bunch of warm-ups and then worked on “Maybe They’re Magic.” If only I started these lessons more than two weeks before the show! Well, hopefully I’ll be able to go back at least twice before the 25th to work on “It Takes Two” and “Moments in the Woods.”
I should have done a lot of things today that I didn’t do. The only thing I really HAVE to get done tonight is the Mirror editor’s note, which I suppose I’ll do after finishing this post. But my mom is watching Glee downstairs and it’s so tempting to go watch with her even though I’ve already seen all of the episodes. Oh! That was something I forgot to mention in my list last night. Now I’m completely caught up, which is cool, though it was nice to be able to watch as many in a row as I wanted without commercials. Ah, well.
I’ve been eighteen for two months today! It’s still weird.
