Some things that happened.

On Thursday, I went to Brighton Beach to be in a student film. We found a dead cat and I had to prod it with an umbrella. ARRRRT!

On Friday, Adam bought a cassette tape deck, Ty showed us her short film that Alexis and I were in, and I went to a weird party in a tiny apartment on Thompson.

On Saturday, a few of us saw Trojan Women at Atlantic. I had mixed feelings about it. Then there was the Broome talent show with free pizza and then Hannah’s party, which was nine-year-old themed and a lot of fun.

Today my dad visited and we went to Lombardi’s at a weird time so we didn’t have to wait and then walked all the way to the High Line, walked the whole High Line, and then walked to Penn Station to take the subway back here.

It was a good weekend, but I have a midterm on Tuesday that I haven’t really studied for. I will tomorrow. I will study so much tomorrow.

Sometimes all you need is cheap falafel at one in the morning and a solitary walk through the West Village.

Birthday!

So, I am officially considered an adult by the government now, but my inner Peter Pan resents that. Though I’m still going to register to vote! Ms. Finkle has instilled a sense of political efficacy in my brain.

At school, Caileigh gave me a beautiful set of wings made out of construction paper that say “It’s my 18th birthday!” on them. Yeah. Be jealous. I wore them all day. She also gave me a bag of dollar store goodies (like fake Play Dough and dinosaur stickers!) because apparently her “real” gift for me hasn’t arrived yet. Hey, I’d be happy with just the dollar store things.

At rehearsal, Meg brought a cake! A cake she had baked for me! It was fantastically delicious and still a bit warm when we ate it. And I got to take what was left home! Janine gave me a cute little box of cookies, on which she wrote: “Cookies… that’s what these are!” which, for some reason, I think is really adorable. After cake, Ian, who works at Applebee’s, led everyone in singing the Applebee’s birthday song, which was absolutely hilarious and probably the best part of my day.

Rehearsal ended early and my dad wasn’t even near the Shubin when I left, so I started walking, expecting that he’d get down where I was soon, but instead I ended up walking all the way home. TWENTY EIGHT BLOCKS! It was kind of nice because it was pretty mild out and after eating a giant piece of cake, walking felt good. But still. That’s a lot of blocks. My dad actually caught up with me when I was half a block away from home, but I wouldn’t get in the car because I might as well have walked the full 28 blocks by that point.

Gift-wise, my mom got me a bunch of mini soft pretzels and two really cool pairs of Betsy Johnson earrings, and my dad got me a few CD’s and twenty dollars. He said he didn’t have time to get any “big” gifts, which I’m totally fine with, especially because we’re going to Colorado for spring break, but he said he’d “work something out.” Well, alright.

So, today was quite a good day overall (despite the fact that I had to sing in Drama and I don’t do well singing in front of people, so that was no fun). Tomorrow should be nice too, because Amanda wasn’t in school today, and apparently has birthday things for me. Also, it’s a half day, which is always something to be happy about.
